Boise Baby girl | Eagle Idaho Newborn Photographer

This little lady was so sweet and adorable.Eagle Idaho Baby girl Newborn_boise_photography4

While I was able to snap a few shots of her asleep, she definitely wanted to be awake. She was so alert and super interested in what I was doing. A few times she’d nearly doze off, only to pop one eye open, almost to say “I see you.” Well, baby girl – I see you too! :) Newborn_boise_photography5

Newborn DIY posing pillow | Boise Baby Photographer

Do you have $3.00 and 10 minutes? You can make your very own newborn posing pillow!

DSC_2935 DSC_2930

Plus – You don’t have to sew – AT ALL!!

What!??!?

Think about what makes up a posing pillow. Fabric on the outside filled with something. That filling would ideally be moldable and not bumpy. Bonus if you can modify the shape. Double bonus if it could be warmed to help baby sleep.

Here’s what you need.

1. Sock (or tights, or even an old shirt sleeve)

2. Rice (or flax seed, or beans – but not sure you can really warm those up)

OK – ready to see it?

Knee high socks and 2 bags of rice from the Dollar Tree – $3.00 total. (will make 2 rice posing pillows). I used a paper cup to fill the socks. You could use a funnel or even a paper plate or piece of paper rolled up to pour rice into the sock. DSC_2915

I cut the bottom out of my cup to make a large opening for my funnel.DSC_2919

Put cup or funnel into the top of the sock. DSC_2921

Cut the corner off of the rice bag.DSC_2924

WHOOPS – hold onto that cup and cuff of the sock – maybe tape it if you’re taking pictures and doing this one handed?!??! What a mess…..DSC_2926

Entire bag of rice goes in – pretty straight forward.DSC_2928

Tie the open end.DSC_2930

You can vary the firmness or size of this poser by where you tie it off. You don’t like the size/shape? Undo the knot and retie.DSC_2931

Tuck the ends under if you want. Don’t like the shape of the sock with the heel? Go ahead and tie off that area too. (or use a pair of cheap knit tights, tube socks or even a shirt/sweater sleeve)DSC_2932

Wrap around the sock to make the donut shape of some newborn posers. You could even attach the ends if you wanted.DSC_2935

This is exactly how I have made rice or flax heating bags. So you could microwave this – CAREFULLY – avoiding hot spots. Or use a heating pad under your posing fabric to warm up the rice filled socks. These rice posers mold nicely for positioning baby and are nice and smooth. You can even throw extra rice bags in the bottom of a bucket or bowl to add weight and stability when doing prop shots.

Have fun!!

Twin newborn girls | Boise Newborn Baby Photographer

Its always an honor when another photographer will refer a client to you. Even better when its twins. For these girls, mom wanted posed studio shots and that’s what i specialize in :) .  These babies were a dream to photograph and the parents were laid back and easy going as I got lots of time to play with their new baby girls. Big brother was also super cool, such a champ posing with the girls!

Easter Fun – Resurrection Rolls | Carlsbad Church

Not everyone knows the many things I am busy doing each week, but one of my favorites is being part of a great program called Mornings with Mommy at Beautiful Saviour Church. This fun hands-on Mommy and child program combines the well thought out plans of a teacher with the one-on-one play of their Mommy to make a fun learning experience. If you’re local to Carlsbad area and want to check it out, click HERE (FYI – I teach Wednesday’s session).

Back to my post topic. We have been busy learning and celebrating Spring and Easter this month. One of the fun things we did with our class this week was to have a unique snack after learning about Jesus and His awesome Easter story. This special treat was a roll that was …. EMPTY! That’s right, it started off with a large marshmallow inside, but after cooking its gone – just like jesus rising from the dead – and its replaced by a sweet gooey center – another reminder that while something “being gone” might seem sad, sometimes its a reason to celebrate and has a happy ending!

How to make. You need any prepackaged bread or roll dough. I like crecent roll dough, but any kind will work. Large marshmallows, melted butter, cinnamon and sugar.

Unroll the dough, place the marshmallow in the middle and wrap the dough around it, make sure to seal it well.  Tell your child that its like Jesus being put into the tomb after he died on the cross and being sealed inside by the large stone. Now brush on the melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar on top. (You can also dip the marshmallow in the butter and roll it in the cinnamon and sugar mixture BEFORE wrapping it in the dough for a sweeter treat, but this is still a sweet sticky snack either way!) Bake your resurrection roll according to the package directions for your bread dough. Once done, your child can open it up to discover that the “tomb” is now empty leaving behind a sweet center.

Enjoy!

This is NOT my picture, but I thought the visual would help. Its from inspiredbyfamilymag.com

6 months Baby Boy Easter Session | Carlsbad Baby photographer

This cute boy keeps growing and getting cuter all the time. He has decided we are friends and will flash me his cute smiles as I make goofy faces. He was very handsome in his Easter best and had a blast playing with the Easter eggs.
